The Tudor period overflows with great stories, events and characters. Legend Theatre create a Tudor age influenced by King Henry VIII and his queens, the pursuit of knowledge, travel and adventure.
Drawing on skills in mime, music, storytelling and puppetry, the audience become involved as an exciting tale unfolds. "Welcome to the Tudor Art Gallery ...", the scene is set but these paintings reveal more than the eye first sees. With the Spanish Armada in the English Channel and William Shakespeare waiting in the wings, the stage is set for an absorbing Tudor tale.
" Thank You for a fantastic performance today.
We as teachers feel that it is especially important to make learning tangible and seeing it in a three-dimensional way really makes the learning come alive! "
“We would definitely recommend you.”
Roxbourne Middle School, Harrow.
Two investigative journalists from the Tudor Times are on the trail of the Tudors. On their journey they meet Shakespeare who is writing a play about Henry VIII. Henry is discovered preparing for a joust. He informs his leading churchman Thomas Wolsey that he wants a divorce. The Pope refuses and Henry dissolves the monasteries forming the church of England. At the court of this leading Tudor king, the children help to prepare a magnificent feast. Jugglers, musicians, painters, stilt walkers and of course the Royal Jester help to make this a banquet to be remembered. Time moves to the court of Elizabeth I and the battle of the Armada. Sir Francis Drake leads the British fleet to victory against Spain. The Journalists return from their fact finding mission with plenty of information, They examine the evidence they found and set off to write their report.
WORKSHOPS
An afternoon History/Drama workshop is the perfect accompaniment to a morning performance. Lasting the full afternoon and able to involve all the children studying the topic, workshops are fun, educational and capture the role-playing enthusiasm of the show.
•We begin with a Q&A session about the show. Expanding on the Legend Theatre actors, company and the history in the storyline, fact or fiction.
•The children are soon up and moving around observing and learning some of the drama and theatre techniques seen in the show. Mime, voice, action-reaction and sound effects. Working solo, paired and in groups.
•The final part of the workshop gives a chance for anything previously made by the class, costumes, props etc to be used in role-play. These props are combined with the companies to bring a period scene to life. Weather it’s a Tudor street scene, Ancient Greek Agora or a Viking settlement the afternoon peaks with the actors returning in character to interact with the groups scenes.
•The cost of a workshop would be £115 ( total for full day including show £315) Additional transport costs may be added depending on location.
