Two comic Victorian Historians and various period characters take the audience back in time to experience domestic life, inventions, education and the Great Exhibition of 1851.
Legend Theatre's characters will use mime, song and storytelling to dispute forever the saying "we are not amused!"
"Both children and teachers were delighted with the day. We will be in touch in the next academic year." Bush Hill Park Sch
" Thank You for a fantastic performance today. We as teachers feel that it is especially important to make learning tangible and seeing it in a three-dimensional way really makes the learning come alive! " Acton Sch
The children are met by two modern day professors who need to collect Victorian information in order to write their book. The professors introduce MAVIS (My Audio Visual Information Selector)
The Machine chugs and whirs as the artefacts are pulled out. The children look at the evidence and explore clues to the past before travelling back to Queen Victoria's Coronation in 1837.
Several years later, the young Queen Victoria meets with her cousin Albert where she proposes marriage to him. In an age where women took on the passive role of Angel in the House, we see the exception to the rule. Prince Albert loses his hat where it accidentally falls into the hands of the innocent children Smithy and Thomas. Thomas is arrested by the Peelers, on suspicion of theft. He is thrown into prison and threatened with transportation. Smithy's quest is to get Thomas out of trouble!
In true Victorian tradition, our story ends happily with a music hall melodrama. The children are then returned back to the modern day professors where they gather the final clues and recap informtion for the Victorian book.
WORKSHOPS
An afternoon History/Drama workshop is the perfect accompaniment to a morning performance. Lasting the full afternoon and able to involve all the children studying the topic, workshops are fun, educational and capture the role-playing enthusiasm of the show.
•We begin with a Q&A session about the show. Expanding on the Legend Theatre actors, company and the history in the storyline, fact or fiction.
•The children are soon up and moving around observing and learning some of the drama and theatre techniques seen in the show. Mime, voice, action-reaction and sound effects. Working solo, paired and in groups.
•The final part of the workshop gives a chance for anything previously made by the class, costumes, props etc to be used in role-play. These props are combined with the companies to bring a period scene to life. Weather it’s a Tudor street scene, Ancient Greek Agora or a Viking settlement the afternoon peaks with the actors returning in character to interact with the groups scenes.
•The cost of a workshop would be £115 ( total for full day including show £315) Additional transport costs may be added depending on location.
